Jeffersonville man charged with 112 counts of child solicitation

Gary Armstrong allegedly tried to chat with Perverted Justice volunteers

A Jeffersonville man was charged Thursday with 112 counts of child solicitation, a class C felony, in Clark Circuit Court, according to a press release from Indiana State Police.

Gary C. Armstrong, 42, of the 1500 block of Northaven Drive, allegedly corresponded over the Internet with a volunteer from Perverted Justice, who was posing as a 13-year-old girl in cyberspace. The online conversations were sexual in nature, the press release says.

Perverted Justice is a California-based nonprofit organization that uses volunteers to pose as teenagers and preteens in online chat rooms, with a goal of having sexual predators identified and prosecuted by luring them.

Police say Armstrong sent a photo of what he alleged to be himself to the agent and reportedly made contact with seven Perverted Justice representatives, trying to speak to them in an Internet chat room, the release says.

The case was investigated by David Makowsky from ISP’s Sellersburg Post. The Kentucky attorney general’s office and New Albany Police Department also were part of the investigation, which continues.

A class C felony conviction carries with it two to eight years in prison.
