JEFFERSONVILLE

Chili event seeks entrants

Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. is looking for a few good chili cooks.

The nonprofit downtown revitalization group is hosting its eighth annual Chili and Brew Bonanza from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Kye’s II in Jeffersonville.

Jeffersonville Main Street is seeking both amateur and professional chili cooks to be among the 20 recipes available to sample. To enter as a chili cook, email info@JeffMainStreet.org.

In addition to chili, there will be a variety of brews to taste, live music, a silent auction and lots of fun. Proceeds go to help with Jeffersonville Main Street’s efforts to revitalizing downtown Jeffersonville.

NEW ALBANY

Speaker to talk to genealogical group

Re-enactor Alice Glover will present “A Visit with Mollie Griffin” at the Thursday, March 7, meeting of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society. 

Glover will give a first-person account of Mary Caroline Compton Griffin, the Civil War widow of Col. Daniel F. Griffin of New Albany. 

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.

Church seeks items for sale

The Circle of Friends Class at DePauw Methodist Church will be holding a basement sale from 8 a.m. to noon March 9, in the Fellowship Hall at the church, 925 Vincennes St., New Albany.

The class gives two $500 scholarships every year to graduating seniors at Floyd Central and New Albany high schools. Money from the sale will go toward the scholarships.

Donations of items are needed for the sale, and pick up of large items is available. Call Dale at 812-945-5321, Glen at 812-288-7722 or Rolf at 812-923-5232. If you have items to donate or need to schedule pick up of larger items.
