Church to hold cookie walk

Cook Memorial Untied Methodist Church, 1025 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville, will sponsor a cookie walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the church.

Choose from cookies, fudge or candy, $6 per pound. Lunch at the Corner Cafe will be serving chili or soup, sandwiches and drink for $5.

Craft sale at Brandon’s House

Brandon’s House Counseling Center, Inc. will be having a huge Christmas craft and basement sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1. in the Fellowship Hall at DePauw Methodist Church, 925 Vincennes Street, New Albany, (across from New Albany High School).

Beautiful Christmas gifts, crafts, homemade cookies and candy and decorations will be available at bargain basement prices. Santa will be there, too, so bring your camera for a picture! There will be special crafts for children to make from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. led by Diane Stawar. Lunch will be available: pulled pork sandwiches, chips and more.

All profits will benefit Brandon’s House Counseling Center, Inc., a nonprofit agency with offices in New Albany and Corydon. The center opened in 1993 with the mission of giving away Master’s level counseling to teenagers and families. Brandon’s House has given away more than two million dollars worth of professional counseling services in the 20 years it has been open. Call 949-2499 for more information.

Parlor stories to be presented

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1015 E. Main St., New Albany, will sponsor

Parlor Stories, “Gifts of the Season, ” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the church.

Parlor Stories presents six short pieces that feature different kinds of gifts for the season. Truman Capote, Bill Bryson and David Sedaris are among the authors whose short stories will be read, and the “gifts” they recall will bring smiles, sighs, full out laughter, and perhaps even a tear.

Doors open in the Parish House Parlor at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, however, donations are accepted at the door and go toward further renovations of the Parish House. Refreshments will be served at intermission.

Author to sign books

Author Kathryn Grant’s book signing event will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Destinations Booksellers, 604 E Spring St., New Albany.

Grant, a resident of Las Vegas, will be available to sign copies of her book, “Honorable.”

CHARLESTOWN

Learn how to make wreaths

The Sunnyside Master Gardeners are offering a wreath making class, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at a new location, Clark County 4-H Fairgrounds, 9608 Hwy. 62, Charlestown.

With the assistance of Sunnyside Master Gardeners, master your talents at wreath-making using a large variety of fresh holiday greens, cones, berries and dried materials that come from the Master Gardeners’ own landscapes and gardens. Learn how to use evergreen cuttings to decorate your home and return home with a completed wreath on a re-useable form. You can also learn to tie your own bow. You only need to bring your clippers and gloves.

Class size is limited to 125 participants and registration is first come, first serve the morning of the class. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The fee, which includes a ribbon, is $20 when you bring back a prior years’ wreath form or $2 when you purchase a new reusable wreath form at the door.

Auditions for comedy open

Rose Island Playhouse will hold auditions for Gary Stapp’s hilarious comedy, “Daddy’s Girl,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Charlestown Public Library, 51 Clark St., Charlestown.

The cast consists of four to five men ages late 20s to 50s and eight to nine women ages late 20s to 60s. The audition will be a cold reading. For more information, please call 812-289-1329

City’s chamber group to meet

The next meeting of the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce will be at noon Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Charlestown Arts and Enrichment Center, 999 Water St. in Charlestown.

Lunch will be provided by Tamsie Meurer. In addition to regular business, the 2013 annual Chamber business award winners will be announced. The guest speaker will be Merlyn Knapp, CEO of Saint Catherine Regional Hospital.
