6 P.M. UPDATE: Clarksville police investigating homicide

Male resident of Plum Lake subdivision found with gunshot wound to chest

CLARKSVILLE — Clarksville Police Department officials are conducting a homicide investigation at a Clarksville home in the 2300 block of Plum Woods Drive.

Police believe the victim, a white man in his 40s who lived in the home, was killed in the late morning hours Monday. The identity of the man has not been released.

He was found with a gunshot wound to his chest, police reported. Police could not confirm if multiple shots had been fired.

After responding to the home about 11:30 a.m. Monday, police considered the incident a death investigation, as they were unable to determine if the man had turned the firearm on himself. But as the investigation unfolded, investigators began treating the shooting as a homicide, CPD Maj. Darrell Rayborn said.

Chief Mark Palmer with CPD said about 5:30 p.m. that no suspects have been identified. Palmer said earlier in the day that it appeared no one else was in the home at the time of the shooting, but added, “There are some suspicious characteristics to it [the shooting].”

He couldn’t say at the time if the firearm had been recovered by police. Investigators have made contact with the victim’s wife, and the investigation is ongoing, Palmer said. He said he expects more information to be released as it continues.

The home is located at the northern end of Clarksville in the Plum Lake subdivision, near Hunter Station business complex in Sellersburg. It has a Sellersburg mailing address.
