Florida woman arrested after car hits home

Police say she also battered someone at the crash scene

JEFFERSONVILLE —

A woman was arrested after police say she crashed her car into a Jeffersonville home early Monday morning.

Shawna L. Fields, 30, of Fort Myers, Fla., hit the home on the 200 block of River Wood Drive in her black Nissan at about 12:30 a.m. The resident there called Indiana State Police reporting the crash. He stated that the vehicle caused severe damage to his residence and then fled the scene. He described the vehicle as a black Nissan with major front-end damage containing two females.

A short time later, the vehicle was located a few blocks away on the 100 block of Webster Boulevard by an officer with the Jeffersonville Police Department. Two ISP troopers arrived on the scene and after an investigation, one of the troopers pegged Fields as the driver of the car. Police say she also allegedly battered a witness at the scene of the crash. She was arrested and preliminarily charged with the following class A misdemeanors: battery, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, interference with the reporting of a crime, operating while intoxicated and OWI with a blood-alcohol level of .15 percent or more.

She was in the Michael L. Becher Correctional Complex awaiting her court appearance as of press time.
