Add another company to list of distribution sites located in the River Ridge Commerce Center.
The Standard Register Co. a national workflow, communications and analytics solutions provider announced it will locate a new national digital print and distribution center in the commerce center, according to a press release from One Southern Indiana. The company is expected to create 360 new jobs at the site by 2016.
Standard Register could receive up to $2.3 million in conditional tax credits, and up to $175,000 in training grants, based on its job creation plans through the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The tax credits are performance-based.
In addition, the River Ridge Development Authority will consider additional property tax abatement through the business park’s enterprise zone, according to the release.
“The business climate in Indiana and desirable central location combined to make this a very attractive investment for Standard Register,” said Joseph P. Morgan, Jr., president and CEO in the release.
The Dayton, Ohio-based company has more than 2,200 employees at 30 locations nationwide. The River Ridge location will be the company’s second in Indiana. Standard Register also has a facility located in Shelbyville that employs about 85 people.
To locate in River Ridge, Standard Register will invest nearly $10 million to lease and renovate a 335,000-square-foot facility in the commerce center. The building is expected to be operational this summer and will house digital printing and distribution operations. Some operations from existing Standard Register facilities will be transferred to the new center.
Crossdock Development Inc. President Lee Wilburn said the lease will allow Standard Register to occupy about three-fourths of the building at 700 Patrol Road, which used to house the U.S. Census Bureau. Wilburn said there are several companies that have expressed an interest in locating in the remaining 115,000 square feet of space that includes 10 loading docks and an office space.
“We have a proposal out on it right now,” he said.
With the lease of a large portion of the 700 Patrol Road building, work is also expected to begin on a new distribution center next door.
“We’re kicking-off the next one,” Wilburn said.
Work is expected to begin on grading and site preparation for a 666,280-square-foot-building at 800 Patrol Road. The plans call for construction on a portion of the site —about 328,000-square-feet — in phase one and construction of the remainder of the building when an occupant is determined. Wilburn said the plans could change if a company needs more space initially and the building could be constructed in its entirety instead of being split up in phases.
Standard Register joins a growing list of companies locating distribution centers in the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant off Ind. 62. Those include Amazon.com and America Place, which will host a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, March 27.

Mike Pence in the release. “We’re honored that Standard Register has chosen the Hoosier state to expand and more efficiently operate its business, creating many new career opportunities for southeast Indiana workers.”
The promise of new jobs was also something that Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore highlighted.
“We are overjoyed Standard Register chose River Ridge Commerce Center as its location for this exciting project,” he said in the release. “The opportunities these 360 positions provide for our citizens are remarkable.”
