Crossroads Campaign gets $450,000 from Clarksville, tourism bureau

Beneficiary is the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center

CLARKSVILLE — The town of Clarksville and the Clark-Floyd Counties Convention and Tourism Bureau rose to the challenge.

The two teamed up to provide $300,000 to the Falls of the Ohio Foundation Crossroads Campaign for New Exhibits, which will put the campaign over the top for a challenge grant from the James Graham Brown Foundation.

The $300,000 contribution will be combined with $400,000 from the state of Indiana and $500,000 from the James Graham Brown Foundation for improvements and new exhibits at the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, according to a tourism bureau news release.

The James Graham Brown Foundation’s challenge grant contributed $1 for every $2 raised by the Falls Foundation, up to $500,000.

A symbolic check presentation to mark the combined contributions of the town and the tourism bureau was held at the Interpretive Center Tuesday.

“It is rewarding to see the cooperation between the Clarksville [Town] Council and the bureau in helping to push this project over the top,” Jim Keith, tourism bureau executive director, said in the release.

The Crossroads Campaign’s goal is to bring exhibits at the Interpretive Center in line with contemporary museum practices and standards for the 21st Century student, family and visitor by emphasizing the immersive experience, according to a Falls Foundation news release issued in July. State-of-the-art, interactive exhibits will chronicle the region’s scientific, cultural and natural history with the interpretive themes “An Ancient Sea,” “A Changing Land,” “Converging Cultures” and “The Falls Today.”

“We were happy to be able  help out in this time-sensitive project,” said Clarksville Town Council President Bob Polston.
