Henryville group March2Recovery among Governor's Service Awards recipients

INDIANAPOLIS — The governor’s office recognized the sacrifices of those who led relief efforts following the 2012 tornadoes that struck Southern Indiana with volunteer service awards Thursday.

March2Recovery, a Henryville-based, primarily volunteer-driven group, was presented the Community of Service Award during a ceremony in Indianapolis.

March2Recovery received one of eight Governor’s Service Awards during the event at the Indiana Statehouse.

The awards program is part of the Governor’s Conference on Service and Nonprofit Capacity Building.

“I join Gov. Michael Pence in extending the deepest thanks to these honorees, who have given time, talent and treasure to meet the needs of Hoosiers all across our state,” said Jeff Cardwell, executive director of Indiana Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, in a press release. “It’s the servant’s heart of Hoosiers that makes the Midwest the heartland of the U.S.”

The awards are presented each year and are considered the state’s highest honor. The agencies and individuals were nominated by community members who witnessed first-hand their dedication and service to volunteerism, according to the OFBCI.

In addition to March2Recovery, service awards were presented Thursday to:

• Corporate Volunteer Award: Helmer Scientific, Noblesville

• Exemplary Service Learning Award: Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic, Indianapolis

• Faith-Based Volunteer: Sue Treida, Noblesville

• Lifetime Achievement Volunteer: Duane C. Hoak, Anderson

• National Service Member: Isela Iveth Vasquez Osorio, Seymour

• Volunteerism: Terri Gineen Martin, Gary

• Youth Volunteer: Taylor Zimmerman, Greenfield
