Bicentennial bake-off at the library
The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, in partnership with the Floyd County Historical Society, the Padgett Museum Auxiliary, and the New Albany Bicentennial Commission, will host a bicentennial bake-off on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Entrants should bring prepared desserts featured in “From New Albany’s Kitchens” cookbook. Copies of the recipes are available at the Reference Services desk or Indiana History Room desk. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., judging will start at 6:45, in the library’s Strassweg Auditorium. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places. Copies of “From New Albany’s Kitchens” will be available for purchase during the bake-off. If you aren’t baking a dessert, come out and try them and vote for your favorite. This event is free, and no registration is required.

Opal Gypsy hosting First Tuesday
The next “First Tuesday” event is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3. This month’s event will be held at The Opal Gypsy, 201 E. Market St.
If you are a local business person, this open networking event provides the opportunity to develop and renew business contacts, but it is also about relationship building and developing you as an individual. You will also enjoy hearing the latest downtown updates.

Khuri hosting public meeting
Clark County Councilwoman Kelly Khuri will host Shelby Schaffer, Clark County’s veterans service officer, for the August Know Your County Government series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 211 E. Court Ave.
Schaffer will be presenting services offered along with other organizations connected to veterans services such as the DAV.
The fourth in the series will be Sept. 25. The Clark County Health Department will be presenting.
Sign up for Cub Scouts
Cub Scout Pack 48 in Clarksville is having a sign-up night for new scouts, boys entering first through fifth grade, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the new St. Anthony Scout Lodge, 314 N. Sherwood Ave., Clarksville.
Cub Scouting is all about camping, hiking, service projects, Pinewood Derby, swimming, preparation for Boy Scouts and other fun activities.
