NEW ALBANY

Friends book sale is Saturday

The Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold a book said in the library’s Annex Building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.

In honor of Tolstoy, books that are considered classics will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks, 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes and 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes. Children’s books are available at $1 or less.

5K race to benefit women students

Business Professional Women of New Albany will sponsor the 2013 5K Race For Education which raises funds in support of academic scholarships for the women of Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Crawford counties.

The race takes place Saturday, Sept. 7, with walk-up registration at 7:30 a.m. and start time at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Besides the gratification of giving back to your community, the race is emceed by the New Albany’s own Letty Walter, so there promises to be fun and laughter along with door prizes and goodie bags.

BPW will award teams by highlighting their participation with announcements at the race and with prizes for the most spirited and largest teams. And best of all, any team of 50 or more registered participants will earn the honor of naming a 2014 BPW Academic Scholarship and awarding it to a deserving woman of Southern Indiana.

CLARKSVILLE

Bird hike set for Saturday

A guided bird hike will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Falls of the Ohio State Park, 201 W. Riverside Drive Clarksville, will search for migratory warblers.

The one-mile hike starts at the observation deck of the interpretive center. Afterward, the group will return to the observation deck to look for raptors and shorebirds.

Participants should bring binoculars. For more information, call 812-280-9970.
