Convicted murderer sentenced in Jeffersonville case

James Washington receives maximum sentence

JEFFERSONVILLE — A Jeffersonville man convicted last month in a fatal stabbing during a $40 drug deal was sentenced to 65 years in prison Monday.

A Clark County jury found James Washington, 36, murdered 55-year-old Robert Eader after going to his home to collect the money following a cocaine transaction.

During the sentencing hearing, Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull allowed four of Eader’s loved ones to speak in the court before Judge Daniel Moore handed down the sentencing.

Eader’s daughter, sister, brother-in-law and former employer each commented on his kindness and general goodwill toward others.

Jamie Eader began to cry almost immediately as she talked about losing her father.

“I’ll never be able to see my father,” she said. “My children will never be able to see their grandfather.”

Before Moore delivered the sentence, Washington was provided the opportunity to address the court.

“I’m very sorry this happened,” Washington said while becoming emotional. “I’m very sorry for your loss.”

After the trial, Mull said he was not fazed by Washington’s tearful apology.

“I think Judge Moore did exactly the right thing in this case by giving him the maximum sentence, he deserves everyday of it,” Mull said.
