Henryville tornado victims to move into new Habitat homes

CLARK COUNTY — Ten displaced families from the March 2 tornadoes that ripped through Henryville will have new homes to move into before Christmas Day, thanks to the Habitat for Humanity of Indiana blitz which began Oct. 7.

Finishing touches are being put on the homes and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Henryville, located at 110 S. Francke Rd., a celebration will be held with the families, sponsors and volunteers that made this miracle possible. After the closing celebration, there will be open houses at the Twin Oaks subdivision, where the homes were constructed.

This disaster recovery project called “Raise the Roof Over Southern Indiana” was an accelerated building project designed to help 10 families rebuild after the devastating tornadoes that swept through the region.

More than 1,500 volunteers from around the state helped build the homes and many sponsors helped raise funds for the build. Corporate sponsors were Lowe’s and Cummins. The lead church sponsor was the Indiana Conference of United Methodist Churches and the Clark County sponsor was The Ogle Foundation.
