JOHNSON LEADS NEW WASH TO WIN

Ashley Johnson scored 24 points as New Washington rebounded from back-to-back losses with a 56-29 win over visiting Madison Shawe on Saturday.

The Class A No. 4 Mustangs led just 13-10 after one quarter before outscoring the Hilltoppers 35-11 over the next two periods.

“We started out, once again, pretty slow,” New Wash coach Terry White said, “but we seemed to gain some momentum. Hopefully we’re going to get back to doing what we know we can do well.”

Caroline Ricks added 10 points and freshman Haley Tye added seven, including New Wash’s only 3-pointer.

Claire Higgins led Shawe (1-5) with nine points.
