FLOYDS KNOBS —
Floyds Knobs American Legion Post No. 42 began its season last weekend by sweeping two doubleheaders at Floyd Central’s Highlander Field.
On Saturday, Post 42 defeated Princeton, 2-1 and 8-6. That was followed by victories of 2-0 and 7-5 over Evansville Pate on Sunday.
In Saturday’s twinbill, Post 42 bounced back from a 1-0 deficit in Game 1 to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Recent Floyd Central graduate Kyle Sipes was the winning pitcher, while teammate Tyler Cockerham from North Harrison got the save.
In the nightcap, Floyds Knobs extended a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to go up 8-3. Post 42’s Kyle Beach got the victory, with teammate Cody Sunderhaus collecting the save.
The Floyds Knobs pitching staff threw a two-hit shutout in its first-game triumph on Sunday versus Evansville Pate. Charlestown pitcher Drew Reich earned the win for Post 42. Teammate Drew Kissel, a Clarksville graduate who just completed his freshman season at St. Catharine (Ky.) College, picked up the save.
In the second game against Pate, Floyds Knobs (4-0) led 5-2 after three innings and was up 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth when it scored an insurance run.
Recent Henryville graduate Cody Reister was the winning pitcher for Floyds Knobs, while Kissel got his second save of the doubleheader.
Post 42 will host Shelbyville (Ky.) at 6 tonight at Highlander Field.
