H.S. ROUNDUP: Highlanders sweep Bulldogs in a pair of dual meets

Clarksville softball wins opener against Crawford County



• Highlanders lose season opener to Jasper:
Fourth-ranked Floyd Central fell in its season opener on Tuesday at home to ninth-ranked Jasper, 3-2.

Olivia Boesing got the Highlanders only singles point, defeating Abby Rogers at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, the Floyd Central tandem of Whitney Batliner and Dana Frank beat Ashley Rogers and Elizabeth Pheil, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.

NEXT: Floyd Central will host the Big 4 Invitational, Saturday.

• Red Devils oust Seymour: Host Jeffersonville started its season with a 3-2 home victory over Seymour on Tuesday.

Winning for the Red Devils were Morgan Reilly at No. 1 singles, Julianna Jenks and Emily Lewis at No. 1 doubles and Macy Lancaster and Rachel Williams at No. 2 doubles.

NEXT: Jeff at Jasper, Thursday.

• Pirates lose opener: Host Charlestown started its season on Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to Brownstown Central. Winning for the Pirates were Sarah Embry at two singles and Megan Crawford at three singles.

NEXT: Charlestown at North Harrison, Thursday.


• Pioneers down Jeff:
Sophomore Mitchell Allender and freshman Kevin Crone each earned medalist honors to lead visiting Providence past Jeffersonville on Tuesday at the Jeff Elks, 166-191. Both Pioneers shot a 41.

Teammates Cory Cahalan and Max Hupp each fired a 42.

Dalton Naiser led the Red Devils with a 46. Rounding out the scoring for Jeff were Jordan Lacy with a 47 and Evan Craig and Nick Rasdon each with a 49.
