C’town to have physicals on May 8

Charlestown High School will have sports physicals from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 in the school’s student service center.

The physicals will be for athletes who plan to compete on any Charlestown athletic team during the 2013-14 school year.

Cost is $20. Only cash will be accepted. Parents should accompany students to fill out the proper forms.

Charlestown boys’ camp

Charlestown High School boys’ basketball coach Sean Smith has announced plans for hosting his team’s annual boys’ basketball camp this May.

The camp is designed for boys currently in grades K-8, and will be a two-week experience.

The camp will be held Monday through Friday after school from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Charlestown Sports Arena during the consecutive weeks of May 6-10 and May 13-17.

Cost per camper is $50, which includes instruction on fundamentals and sportsmanship from the Pirate basketball staff, contests, prizes and a camp T-shirt.

Jeff High wrestling team planning trip to New Zealand

Wrestlers on the Jeffersonville High School wrestling team and Team Jeff Wrestling Club who are interested in going on the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s trip to New Zealand must see Red Devils’ coach Danny Struck to fill out an application.

ISWA members ages 12-19 are invited to apply. The trip is scheduled to start on Sunday, July 21, and wrestlers are expected to return on Thursday, Aug. 8. Dates may change a few days either way depending on flight availability, cost, and host request.

The cost of the trip is estimated to be approximately $2,500 per wrestler. For more information, contact Struck at dstruck@gcs.k12.in.us.
