LITTLE LEAGUE ROUNDUP: Jeff bows out of 11-12 state tournament

Henryville opens regional with shutout victory

FORT WAYNE — 13-14 LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL

• Jeff routs Lake Station:
Jeff/GRC’s All-Stars scored multiple runs in all but one inning to gain a momentous 15-2 victory over Lake Station to improve to 2-0 at the state tournament at South Bend on Thursday night.

Taylor Isgrigg had three hits, and Kaylee Strong, Jennah Tincher and Camryn Teague each had three RBIs to lead GRC.

Tincher started and pitched four innings for Jeff. She struck out six, throwing 15 first-pitch strikes.

Jeff takes on the District 8 champions out of Indianapolis at 3 p.m. today.

On Wednesday, the Jeff/GRC 13-14-year-old All-Star softball team scored four runs in the third to propel it to a 7-4 win over Don Ayers at South Bend.

Camryn Teague tossed all seven innings for Jeff to pick up the win. She struck out nine batters and gave up just three hits.

Jennah Tincher had three hits, including two doubles, to anchor GRC’s lineup. Olivia Lopez led Jeff with two RBIs.

11-12 CAL RIPKIN BASEBALL

• Henryville shuts out Sturgeon Bay:
A leadoff homerun by Kade Badger set the tone for Henryville as it cruised to a 4-0 tourament-opening win Thursday at the Cal Ripken Ohio Valley Regional in Vincennes.

Aric Lyons sarted the game for Henryville and pitched the first three innings. Badger, who single-handedly turned two double plays at shortstop, came in to pitch the final three innings and complete the shutout.

“Defense is our motto,” Henryville coach Eric Marcum said following the win. “It has always carried us. To have a shutout here at state is special considering the caliber of teams.”

Elijah Marcum doubled off the centerfield fence to drive in two runs in the fourth. Tyler Ingram stole third and came in to score when the pickoff throw got through the infield.

Henryville plays Griffith at 10 a.m. today and at 4 p.m. as it rounds out pool play against North Lexington (Ky.). Single-elimination play begins Saturday.
