> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
After a dominant performance against Bedford North Lawrence, the Floyd Central Highlanders will play Jennings County for the Hoosier Hill Conference Championship today.
The Highlander tormented the Bedford pitching staff for 13 hits in Thursday’s 13-2 victory.
“This type of performance has been building,” Highlander coach Scott Castleberry said. “The team has really come together as one and they are starting to play with passion and are having fun. Our offense had a great game and Caroline [Cato] pitched well. Overall, this was one of our better games.”
Cato pitched a steady game against the Stars. She allowed two early runs in the first but put an end to the scoring and blanked Bedford the rest of the game. She pitched five innings, allowing just four hits and struck out two.
Kaitlin Dreher paced the offensive attack for Floyd Central. She was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, also driving in two runs while scoring twice.
Taylor Castleberry was not put out in the contest, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. She also stole a base.
Jenson Strigel went 2-for-3 and connected for another Highlander home run. She finished with two RBI and two runs scored, as well.
The win places the 16-9 Highlanders in tonight’s championship game against Jennings County, which knocked off Jeffersonville on Thursday. The Highlanders beat the defending sectional champion Panthers 3-2 last week.
“Jennings County is a real strong team,” coach Castleberry said. “If we can come out with our intensity and play with our power and speed I see us doing just fine.”
