HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Daniel to play in IFCA All-Star Classic tonight

C'town quarterback fourth Pirate to play in annual game

INDIANAPOLIS — During its 40-year existence, Charlestown Pirate football has had some good quality representation at the state level.

Former Pirate stars like Kem Martin in 1976, Richard Lanham in 1990 and BJ Steele in 1999 have represented the program in the annual Indiana Football Coaches Association Grange Insurance All-Star Classic and left their mark in not only the Pirate record books, but also as a state All-Star player.

Now add former Charlestown quarterback Aaron Daniel to this small fraternity of Pirate football stars.

Daniel was selected back in March to play one of two quarterback positions on the Classic’s South All-Star team, which plays the North All-Star team in their annual clash at 7 tonight at Indianapolis North Central High School.

Before graduating from Charlestown last month, Daniel finished his four-year high school football career becoming Charlestown’s all-time leading passer (5,637 yards) and all-time leading rusher (4,506 yards) and setting another 14 new football statistical school records.

During his senior year in 2012, he helped the Pirates finish the regular season ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, undefeated for the school’s 15th Mid-Southern Conference title, Class 3A Sectional 23 champions and the No. 1 scoring offense in Indiana (averaging 60 points on 490 yards of offense per game).

Daniel has since set his sights on and acquired a preferred walk-on status to play football at Indiana University.

The game will be broadcasted on Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting at www.CPPSB.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.

More information about the All-Star game, including All-Star rosters, can be located at ifca.zebras.net/ifca/candler/announcements/all-star_game.htm.
