Floyds Knobs fell behind Clinton 4-0 after two innings and 6-5 after four but scored 11 runs in the final three frames to earn a 16-6 victory in the opening round of the American League Terre Haute Regional on Friday.
Floyds Knobs (25-6) will play the defending champion and favorites from Terre Haute (31-10) today at noon in the winners bracket final. The championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday and 30 minutes later if a second game is needed.
On Friday, Garrett Ruttle helped keep Post 42 in the contest surrendering just one hit in 4 1/3 innings of relief and earned the victory.
“Garrett did a super job for us in relief, stopping their offense and allowing our hitters to put some runs on the board,” Floyds Knobs manager Ricky Romans said.
Floyd Central graduate Jacobs Snodgrass went 4-for-4 and scored three times. He had two doubles and drove home three runs. Clarksville grad Drew Kissell was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Cockherham had a double and a triple among Post 42’s 17 hits.
“After a slow start, we did a good job being patient and working the count offensively,” Romans said. “It was a good team win tonight.”
Clinton (15-13) will play Madison in the elimination bracket today at 3:30 p.m. The winner will face the Terre Haute-Floyds Knobs loser at 7 p.m. for a spot in the championship game against today’s winners bracket final.
