> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
Colin Martin threw a complete game to help lead Charlestown past Brownstown Central 6-2 in Thursday’s Mid-Southern Conference action.
The Pirates backed up Martin with a four-run fourth to break a 2-2 tie. Drew Reich went 2-for-4 with two runs knocked in.
“We played well enough to win tonight,” Charlestown coach Ricky Romans said. “Colin had another quality start and continues to do a very nice job for us. We made the routine plays defensively and got a few timely hits.”
The Pirates, who host the Charlestown Invitational on Saturday, improve to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in league play. Brownstown is now 14-5 and 6-1, respectively.

Silver Creek coach Scott Jennings: “Three kids in our lineup totaled for eight of out 11 hits. Cook had three doubles and we had 16 total bases in the game. We hit the ball pretty good tonight but out defense also did a nice job. Shae Durham made a play in the sixth that should be on SportsCenter. On a goundball up the middle he fielded it in the grass and threw it to first to get the out. It is the sixth time this year he has made a play like that. The kid can play.”

Silver Creek assistant coach Scott Jennings: “The fourth inning was a good one. Two or three of those in a game and you will be in good shape. Cameron Cook had a pretty good day at the plate with four doubles on the night and was 8-for-8 in quality at-bats. Shawn Pezzullo came up with a big double to start the scoring in the fourth. The only two people happier than me for Shawn was Shawn and his father. He is a great kid and I am glad to see him come through.”
