DISTRICT 5 ROUNDUP: New Albany 11-12s down Jeff/GRC, 10-8

Jeff 13-14s roll past Creek

CLARKSVILLE — The New Albany Little League 11-12 softball All-Stars improved their pool play record to 2-0 on Tuesday with a 10-8 win over Jeff/GRC in the District 5 All-Star tournament at Clarksville Little League Park.

New Albany got three triples in the contest from Taylor Watt, Hailey Timberlake and Skylar Roark.

New Albany’s Morgan Jenks was the starting pitcher, throwing four innings. Roark pitched the final two frames.

The New Albany defense supported its pitchers by turning two double plays. New Albany’s second game on Tuesday against Clarksville was postponed because of rain. New Albany defeated Clarksville in its tournament opener on Monday, 25-5.

New Albany and Jeff/GRC are scheduled to face each other again at 8 tonight.



• Jeff/GRC 16, Silver Creek 3: Jeff/GRC opened up pool play on Tuesday with a 16-3 victory over Silver Creek in five innings.

Juliette Schuur led Jeff to the win in the circle and at the plate. Schuur pitched all five innings to earn the victory, allowing no earned runs on two hits. She struck out three and walked two.

On offense, Schuur got on base three times and scored three runs. Her lone hit was a single in the first inning. Schuur also had an RBI.

Teammate Kurin Worgull had a great game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jeff’s Lizzy Coons was 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Also for Jeff, Casey Schweitzer and Amy Steinmetz each scored twice and Faith Denig had three RBIs.

Silver Creek pitcher Alisha Harbold got the loss in the circle. Harbold and teammate Jordan Balz each smacked a single. Scoring Silver Creek’s three runs were Harbold, Lauren Jacob and Molly Abernathy.

Jeff will face New Albany at 8 tonight. Silver Creek will play New Albany at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
