On Friday night at the IUPUI Natatorium, Floyd Central junior Meg Taylor was the only area girls’ swimmer to advance to today’s finals of the IHSAA State Finals.
Taylor finished 13th in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries on Friday in a time of 52 seconds. Taylor will compete in today’s B final of the 100 free.
Taylor also placed 17th in the 200 free prelims in 1:52.74. The finish made her the first alternate for today’s B final in that event.
Taylor competed in two relays in Friday’s preliminaries — the 200 and 400 free relays.
The Highlanders’ 400 free relay team, which also included junior Maryn Meldrum, senior Amy McCormick and sophomore Layah Jones, was 19th in 3:37.71.
Taylor, Meldrum, McCormick and sophomore Jessica Ingram helped the Floyd Central 200 free relay squad place 21st in 1:40.55.
McCormick ended up 25th in the 500 free prelims in 5:16.63. Meldrum was 26th in the 100 breaststroke prelims in 1:08.21.

New Albany sophomore Reagan Thomas placed 23rd in the 200 individual medley (2:10.06) and 29th in the 100 butterfly (59.03).
