Jeffersonville got home runs from Casey Gibson, Nolan Fertig and Drew Ellis and a stellar outing from Nick Gallagher to avenge last week’s 3-2 loss to Silver Creek with an 11-0 victory on Tuesday.
Gallagher allowed just two hits and struck out nine in his shutout performance.
Trent Astle went 3 for 4 with a double and scored three times for the Devils. Fertig was 2 for 3 and drove home five runs. Gibson had 3 RBIs.
• Pirates whip Jennings County: Charlestown scored four times in the top of the first inning and beat Jennings County 5-1 on Tuesday on Senior Night.
“We played good fundamental baseball in all facets of the game,” Charlestown coach Ricky Romans said. “And everyone contributed.”
Sophomore Drew Reich had a triple and knocked in two runs and senior Tyler Willinger had a double and an RBI for Charlestown.
Freshman Zach Ramirez didn’t allow a hit in 3 1/3 innings in relief for the Pirates.
• Bulldogs sweep split doubleheader: Host New Albany swept a split doubleheader on Monday at Mount Tabor Field, defeating Henryville in a five-inning opener (13-0) and Borden in the nightcap (6-1). The Bulldogs’ Garrett Sherrell had six RBIs and two homers in the twinbill, while teammate Zach Worrall went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Hornets.
• Highlanders win tri-meet: Floyd Central shot a team score of 145 to win a triangular meet at Valley View Golf Club on Tuesday against North Harrison and Scottsburg. The Highlanders’ Devin Jenkins and Eric Lamm shared medalist honors with a 35. Teammate Jack Sparrow shot a 37, Floyd’s Daniel Shepard fired a 38 and Alex Beyer added a 39.
• Providence wins 3-way: Providence won a three-way meet with Bedford North Lawrence and Seymour at Shadowood Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Pioneers shot a 156, led by Max Hupp’s 36 and Cory Cahalan’s 39. Mitchell Allender also shot a 40 and Kevin Crone a 41 for the Pioneers.
