H.S. CROSS COUNTRY: Highlander girls defend Crawford County Regional title

Floyd, Borden advance to semistate in boys’ race

MARENGO —

Jeffersonville wound up ninth in the team standings with 266 points, while Providence finished 10th with 275. Neither team had a runner reach semistate.

Freshman Josey Noel led the Red Devils by placing 51st, while Pioneer junior Alexandra Lowery finished 41st. North Harrison will join Floyd Central at Brown County as it finished third with 101 points.

 

BOYS

Junior Alec Heitz’s fifth-place finish helped the Highlanders score 104 points in their third-place effort. 

Rounding out the scoring for Floyd Central were Grant Vellinger in 21st, Chad Lawrence in 24th, Luke Uhl in 27th and Grant Reynolds in 34th. Other Highlander finishers were seniors Reese Tarr in 38th and Nathan Manias in 66th.

Borden sophomore Julien Magallanes won an individual regional title for the first time in his high school career. Magallanes ran the Crawford County course in a time of 16:26.2, helping the Braves to score 135 points.

Borden junior Gavin Tipker finished 18th, while teammate Nathen Magallanes was 25th. Rounding out the Braves’ scoring were junior Andrew Stonecipher in 48th and sophomore Will Little in 65th. Also for Borden, David Wright was 70th and George Tipker placed 87th.

Providence had two runners advance to regional as it placed seventh with 159 points. Freshman David Betz wound up 11th and senior Lincoln Ottersbach finished 13th.

New Albany freshman Timothy Baumgart qualified for semistate with a 22nd-place finish. 

North Harrison won the regional title with 76 points. Cougar junior Daniel Fleace finished second, while teammate Michael White was fourth. Corydon Central senior Jake Pitts finished 23rd to qualify for semistate.
