H.S. ROUNDUP: Rauck scores school-record 33 to lead Pioneers to season-opening win

Clarksville’s Sharp, Jenkins each post career highs in 105-20 victory

MUNCIE — CLARKSVILLE — In her high school debut, freshman guard Claire Rauck scored a school-record 33 points to lead the Providence girls’ basketball team past Crothersville  in pool play of the Henryville Tip-Off Tournament on Tuesday at the Larkin Center, 78-47. It was the season opener for both teams.

Rauck also had seven rebounds and six steals. Providence’s Olivia Jenkins and Michaela Hoke each scored 11 points. Jenkins also grabbed seven rebounds.

“I was real pleased,” Pioneers’ coach Brad Burden said. “I just liked the way we came out with some defensive intensity and we had a good offensive game. We need to work on our free throws. But other than that, I’m pretty pleased with the effort.”

NEXT: Providence (1-0) hosts Madison Shawe, Henryville Tip-Off Tournament, Thursday.

• Generals thump Medora: Sophomore Bailey Sharp and senior Haley Jenkins each recorded a career high in scoring on Tuesday night, as host Clarksville cruised past Medora in pool play of the Henryville Tip-Off Tournament, 105-20. It was the season opener for both teams.

Sharp tallied 41 points, as she made 10 3-pointers. Jenkins scored 30 points to help the Generals record their highest point total since they registered a 88-20 victory over Madison Shawe on Nov. 12, 2002.

Clarksville had two other players score in double figures. Sophomore Courtney Holmes had 11 points and Gabby Evans chipped in 10.

“The girls executed and because of that we made good shots,” Generals’ coach B.D. Ledbetter said.

NEXT: Clarksville (1-0) hosts Irvington Prep Academy, Henryville Tip-Off Tournament pool play, Thursday.

• Warriors win season opener at Shawe: Christian Academy got its season started on the right foot with a 40-32 victory at Madison Shawe on Tuesday in pool play of the Henryville Tip-Off Tournament.

Junior Allison Burch paced the Warriors with 17 points and eight steals. Teammate Emily Huffaker had 13 points and eight steals, while CAI’s Brittany Maupin grabbed eight rebounds.
