H.S. ROUNDUP: Borden boys, Creek girls win West Clark meet

Henryville’s Spears, Greene 1-2 in girls’ race

• Dragons whip Presentation:
Olivia Scarbrough had a hat trick and Alexis Barnett scored twice as Silver Creek started the 2013 campaign with an 8-0 win over Presentation Academy (Ky.).

Barnett got the scoring started for the Dragons, who led 5-0 at the half. Scarbrough scored twice in the first half along with goals by Bailey Miller and Alexis Cook.

Barnett, Scarbrough and Lauren Cunliffe added early goals in the second half for Creek.

The Dragons had 16 shots on goal compared to two for Presentation.

“We played very well for our first game, but [Presentation was] short-handed,” Silver Creek coach Patrick Anderson said. “Our defense did a great job of limiting their scoring chances, and our midfield controlled the ball allowing us to maintain possession. Our forwards really worked well together and attacked when they could.”

NEXT: Silver Creek (1-0) at South Ripley, Saturday.

• Bulldogs fall at Forest Park: Host Forest Park took a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to beat New Albany 4-2 in Tuesday’s season opener.

Rachel Geveden scored an unassisted goal and Lindsey Striegel scored a late goal on an assist from Morgan Miller for the defending sectional champion Bulldogs.

NEXT: New Albany (0-1) at District 5 Tournament at Columbus North, Saturday.

• Providence tops Corydon:
Evan Hollkamp and Brendan Tucker each scored a goal as defending regional champion Providence defeated Corydon Central 2-0 in its season opener on Tuesday.

Conner VanHook and Brent Hesse each had an assist for the Pioneers.

NEXT: Providence (1-0) hosts Seymour, Saturday.

• Jeff opens with 3-0 win: Losing more than half of its starting lineup from last season didn’t deter Jeffersonville in its season opener as the Red Devils beat DuPont Manual (Ky.) 3-0 in the opening round of the North Oldham Mustang Classic on Monday.

Jeff led 1-0 at the half on an Alex Duckworth free kick from 25 yards out. Isaiah Salazar gave the Devils a 2-0 lead and Leonard Kwitonda made it 3-0 in the 77th minute on a through ball from Ben Mann that he chipped over the head of the Manual goalkeeper.

NEXT: Jeffersonville (1-0) at North Oldham, 6, tonight at North Oldham Invitational, second round.
