COLLEGE BASEBALL: Grenadiers edge St. Catharine 6-4 in home finale

NEW ALBANY — Marcus Howard and Alex Potter combined for seven of the Grenadiers’ 13 hits to lead IU Southeast to a 6-4 win over St. Catharine in the final home game of the 2014 season.

Howard scored the first run of the game after reaching on a bunt hit. He stole second, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Rupe. He scored on Potter’s single to right.

The Grenadiers (27-20) added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 5-0.

Jarret Young and Brad Walker scored on a wild pitch by C.J. Gant in the fourth.

In the fifth, Brian Crider scored on a passed ball and Tyler Adams doubled to score Josh Beams.

Clint Chestnut (5-1) picked up the win. He worked seven innings, giving up eight hits and two runs while striking out three and walking two.

Howard went 4-for-5 , had an RBI and scored a run. Potter went 3-for-5 and had one RBI.

The Grenadiers travel to the University of the Cumberlands for a 2:30 p.m. contest today.
