COLLEGE BASKETBALL: No. 2 Grenadiers slip past Eagles, 95-87

IU Southeast overcomes halftime deficit to improve to 21-3

NEW ALBANY — The IU Southeast men's basketball team extended its home winning streak to 32 games, defeating Cincinnati Christian 95-87 on Monday.

The Grenadiers (21-3, 15-0 KIAC) got off to a slow start, trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half.  CCU shot 49 percent from the field (16 of 33) and 4 of 10 from behind the arc in the opening half.

IU Southeast trailed 43-38 at halftime.

The Grenadiers exploded offensively in the second half. Cameron Mitchell scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the final frame. IU Southeast hit 18 of their 29 shots (62 percent) in the second half.

Four Grenadiers finished in double-figures. Jake Simpson had 15, Kegan Clark had 13 and Vernon Payne added 10 points.

Wille McKinney had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Cincinnati Christian in the loss.

IU Southeast went on an 8-0 with five minutes left in the game. Aishon White and Cameron Mitchell hit key shots during the run to put the game out of reach.

The game was close throughout with five ties and seven lead changes.  

The Grenadiers host Brescia University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Five seniors will be honored prior to the game.
