COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Leanhart named KIAC Pitcher of the Week

Freshman goes 2-0 during opening week

NEW ALBANY — Indiana University Southeast freshman Jessica Leanhart was named the Kentucky-Indiana Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week by KIAC officials on Monday.

IU Southeast finished the week 3-1 after winning both games of a doubleheader with St. Catharine’s and splitting a doubleheader with Brescia. Leanhart — an Oldham County (Ky.) product — finished the week 2-0 after earning a win each against St. Catharine and Brescia.

Leanhart’s best outing of the week came in a 2-1 win over Brescia when she pitched a complete game, giving up one run on six hits while striking out seven.

She finished the week with a 3.23 earned run average and struck out 14 opposing batters in 13 innings pitched.

IU Southeast is currently 3-1 overall and 1-1 in KIAC play. The Grenadiers return to action on Saturday in the Lindenwood (Mo.) Tournament.
