Kimmel fails to tie all-time ARCA wins record

Kimmel fails to tie all-time ARCA wins record

Nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel must wait at least another race to tie the series’ all-time wins record.

Last Saturday, Kimmel finished seventh in the Scott 160 at the 4-mile Road America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wis. It was the Clarksville native’s ninth top-10 finish of the season as he now leads second-place Mason Mingus, who placed 10th last Saturday, by 115 points in the ARCA standings.

Chris Buescher was the winner, followed by Andrew Ranger, Tom Hessert, Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney. NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Austin Dillon, the grandson of NASCAR championship owner Richard Childress, was sixth.

Sellersburg resident Will Kimmel wound up 11th in the No. 69 Ford from Clarksville-based Kimmel Racing. Josh Williams, who drove the other Kimmel Racing Ford, wound up 23rd. Henryville resident Darrell Basham was 24th as he did not complete a lap.

Frank Kimmel’s next attempt to tie the ARCA wins record will be this coming Sunday at the half-mile Winchester Speedway in eastern Indiana.

Ex-Floyd player signs with IUS

Floyd Central High School graduate Codie Endris has signed to play men’s tennis at IU Southeast next season.

Endris, a Floyds Knobs native, played No. 2 doubles for the Highlanders last season. Floyd Central posted a 14-8 record in 2012, falling to Jasper 4-1 at the Jasper Semistate.

“Codie brings great added depth to our doubles positions," Grenadiers’ coach Yancey Walters said. “He comes from a great program at Floyd Central, so he has plenty of experience competing in important matches. I am excited to add him to our team.”
