COLLEGE BASEBALL: Astle pitches Musketeers past crosstown rival

Jeff grad allows just one earned run in 6-3 victory over Cincinnati

CINCINNATI — In his eighth start of the season, Xavier freshman and Jeffersonville grad Trent Astle helped the Musketeers defeat crosstown rival Cincinnati 6-3 Wednesday.

Astle pitche 7 1-3 innings, allowing just three runs on seven hits and striking out three Bearcats.

The Musketeers took advantage of Astle’s gem with a four-run fifth inning. They are now 24-18 on the season, including an 8-1 home mark. They’ve won seven straight at Hayden Field.

Astle is now 3-4 on the season with a 4.72 earned run average, 17 strikeouts and 17 walks. The 7-plus innings is his longest outing of the season.
