COLLEGE ATHLETICS: Leanhart earns KIAC honor again

Grenadier freshman named Pitcher of the Week for fourth time

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — IU Southeast freshman Jessica Leanhart was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week by KIAC officials on Monday. This is her fourth pitcher of the week award of the season.

Leanhart finished the week 3-0 with 21 innings pitched. She only allowed seven hits and compiled 19 strikeouts. She earned a pair of wins against Point Park and a win against Asbury.

She ranks third in the KIAC with a 2.38 earned-run average, third in strikeouts (81), third in opposing batting average (.240) and leads the conference with 12 wins.

IU Southeast is 25-10 overall and leads the conference with a 15-3 record. The Grenadiers will return to action on Wednesday when they host Ohio Christian in a doubleheader.

LUCAS NAMED KIAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

IU Southeast freshman Shelby Lucas was named the KIAC Softball Player of the Week by KIAC officials on Monday.

Lucas, a Columbus native, finished the week with a .471 batting average (8-for-17) as the Grenadiers finished the week with a 4-2 record.

The freshman catcher had two doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored. Lucas ranks No. 10 in the KIAC with a .395 batting average and is second with four triples.

PLUSKOTA WINS LEAGUE’S WEEKLY HONOR

IU Southeast senior Frank Pluskota was named the KIAC baseball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday.

Pluskota, a Dyer, Ind., native, finished the week hitting .700 (21-for-30) as the Grenadiers went 6-2 last week. The IU Southeast senior recorded nine doubles, one home run, 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He had six multihit games, including a 6-for-6 game against Miami-Hamilton.

Pluskota ranks second in the KIAC and No. 19 nationally with a .430 batting average. He also leads the NAIA with 21 doubles and is No. 6 in total hits (65).

IU Southeast is 26-20 overall and 11-9 in conference play. The Grenadiers return to action today when they host Oakland City University.
