COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Grenadiers beat down Bearcats In doubleheader sweep

Win gives IUS sixth straight KIAC title

NEW ALBANY — The IU Southeast softball team battered Brescia 14-1 and 10-2 in a sweep of the Bearcats on Tuesday.

Shelby Lucas had a huge day offensively, finishing the day 8-for-8 with four triples and she scored a combined four runs.

The Grenadiers (33-10, 21-3 KIAC) opened Game 1 by scoring 10 runs in the first inning off of Stacey Harbold. IU Southeast sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning and pounded out nine hits in the frame.

Jenna Swain (10-3) was dominant, allowing one run on three hits in four innings. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Jade Detzer went 3-for-3 and had four RBI and scored two runs. Morgan Klosterman went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

In Game 2, Katelyn Heines opened the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. Batliner opened the bottom of the third with a solo home run to center off the scoreboard support for her sixth home run of the year.

The Grenadiers put the game away by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Jessica Leanhart (15-2) gave up a home run to Harbold in the top of the fourth, and surrendered a run in the fifth but otherwise had a solid outing. She gave up six hits and struck out seven in a complete-game win.

The Grenadiers head to Alice Lloyd College for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
