COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Swain’s gem gives Grenadiers third straight KIAC title

IUS will find out national tourney opponent Tuesday

BEREA, Ky. — Jenna Swain pitched a one-hit shutout to send the IU Southeast Grenadiers to an 8-0 win over Asbury for the KIAC championship on Saturday at Berea College.

Jordan Batliner had four RBI for the Grenadiers, who are 41-10 on the season heading into the NAIA Tournament.

The Grenadiers jumped out to a quick lead when Brookelyn Visker hit a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the first.

IU Southeast added two more runs in the third when Chelsey Frith doubled and scored on a ground ball from Batliner that was bobbled by Sarah Woolums. Later, Batliner came around to score on a single from Katelyn Heines.

The Grenadiers put the game away in the fourth when they capitalized with the bases loaded. Shelby Lucas was hit by a pitch to allow Lauren Klosterman to score. Jordan Batliner then cleared the bases with a double to make it 8-0.

Swain gave up one hit, walked one and struck out four in her four innings of work for her 13th win.

IU Southeast will find out the location and pairing in the NAIA opening round on Tuesday.
