Wilson, Jones share Athlete of the Week honors

• Erika Wilson (Southern Indiana women’s track, Eastern graduate, Jr.) — top performance: first in the 5,000-meter run at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., 17:19.25; notes: Wilson’s time in the 5,000 was the second-fastest in program history; she made the All-GLVC team.

• Meghan Jones (Bellarmine women’s track, Floyd Central graduate, Jr.) — top performance: first in the 400 at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., 55.83; notes: second in the 200 finals, 25.07; third in the 200 preliminaries, 24.43; fourth in the high jump, 1.58 meters; Jones earned a spot on the All-GLVC team.



BORDEN

• Dylan Martin (Ancilla baseball, So.) — weekly stats: 6-for-15, three runs scored, three RBIs, two home runs; top performance: 2-for-3 with two homers, three RBIs and two runs scored in the Chargers’ 10-3 victory last Tuesday at Muskegon Community College in Game 1 of a doubleheader; team records: 13-26 overall, 8-18 Michigan Community College Athletic Association.



CHARLESTOWN

• Justin Baxtron (Indiana State men’s track, Sr.) — top performance: second in the 400 relay at the Billy Hayes Invitational last Friday in Bloomington, 40.64; notes: third in the 200, 21.67.

• Tyler Rhodes (Ancilla baseball, Fr.) — weekly stats: 2-for-14, one run scored, one RBI, one double; 0-0 record, one save, two innings pitched, one run allowed (earned), two hits, one walk, one strikeout; top performance: second save of season in the Chargers’ 8-4 victory at Mott Community College last Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader, two innings pitched, one run allowed (earned), two hits, one walk, one strikeout; team records: 13-26 overall, 8-18 Michigan Community College Athletic Association; Rhodes’ record: 0-0.



EASTERN

• Austin Duncan (Hanover men’s track, So.) — notes: 14th in the discus at the Billy Hayes Invitational last Friday in Bloomington, 128-10.

• Tyler Farmer (Vincennes baseball, So.) — season-ending stats: 1-0 record, 6.55 ERA; team record: 23-24.



FLOYD CENTRAL

• Jordan Batliner (IU Southeast softball, So.) — weekly stats: 5-for-10, three runs scored, two RBIs, one home run; 0-0 record, one inning pitched, no runs allowed, no hits, one strikeout, no walks; top performance: 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a two-run homer in the Grenadiers’ 10-2 victory over Berea on Saturday in the championship game of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Danville, Ky.; notes: The tournament title earned the Grenadiers an automatic berth in the NAIA Softball National Championship tournament; Batliner has been named to the All-KIAC team; IU Southeast has set a program record for most wins in a season with 36; team records: 36-7 overall, 23-3 KIAC; Batliner’s record: 5-1.

• Garrett Blackman (Southern Indiana men’s track, Sr.) — notes: seventh in the 10,000 at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., 31:54.44.

• Will Cox (Southern Indiana men’s track, Sr.) — notes: seventh in the 5,000 at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., 15:12.7.

• Samantha McClure (Tennessee-Martin softball, So.) — notes: 0-for-3 in the Skyhawks’ 11-9 victory at Southeast Missouri on Saturday in Game 1 of a doubleheader; team records: 33-18 overall, 14-10 Ohio Valley Conference.

• Brittany Mills (Ohio State softball, Sr.) — weekly stats: 0-for-1, one run scored, one stolen base; notes: one run scored and one stolen base in the Buckeyes’ 4-0 home victory over Wright State last Wednesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader; team records: 33-21 overall, 10-13 Big Ten.

• Matt Powers (Hanover baseball, Fr.) — notes: no-decision relief outing in the Panthers’ 18-3 home loss to Bluffton last Friday, one inning pitched, five runs allowed (two earned), three hits, one walk, one strikeout; season-ending stats: 1-0 record, 8.68 ERA; team records: 16-22 overall, 9-16 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

• Jeff Thompson (Louisville baseball, Jr.) — top performance: winning pitcher in a starting role in the Cardinals’ 6-5 victory at Villanova on Saturday, 6 1/3 innings pitched, four runs allowed (four earned), four hits, career-high 12 strikeouts and two walks; notes: Thompson was one of 60 players across the nation to be named to the midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list, which was released last Thursday by USA Baseball; team records: 37-10 overall, 14-4 Big East; Thompson’s record: 8-1.



JEFFERSONVILLE

• Patrick Elliott (Ball State men’s tennis, So.) — notes: Elliott recently earned a spot on the All-Mid-American Conference Tournament team. It was the first time Elliott has been selected to the team; team records: 16-8 overall, 5-1 MAC.

• Natalie Nikitas (Bluffton softball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 0-for-3; notes: 0-for-1 in the Beavers’ 10-6 loss to Manchester in the loser’s bracket of the HCAC Tournament last Friday in North Manchester; season-ending stats: .267 batting average, four home runs, 18 RBIs; team records: 17-19 overall, 9-5 HCAC.



NEW ALBANY

• Stephanie Cave (Indianapolis women’s track, Sr.) — notes: eighth in the 10,000 (38:00.67, personal record) and ninth in the 5,000 (18:09.61, personal record) at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill.; the Greyhounds won the GLVC title with 197 1/2 points.

• Sean Godfrey (Ball State baseball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 3-for-14, two RBIs, one run scored, one double; top performance: 2-for-6 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in the Cardinals’ 10-6 win in 12 innings at Eastern Michigan last Friday; team records: 22-20 overall, 11-10 MAC.

• Carissa Martin (Bellarmine women’s track, Sr.) — notes: seventh in the 800 at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., 2:21.34.

• Adam Togami (Wabash men’s track, Fr.) — top performance: first in the 3,000 steeplechase at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships last Friday and Saturday in Gambier, Ohio, 9:35.73, personal record; notes: 13th in the 5,000, 15:50.72; the Little Giants won the conference championship for the third year in a row with 275 1/2 points.



NORTH HARRISON

• Tyler Byrne (Louisville men’s track, Georgetown native, So.) — top performance: fourth in the 10,000 at the Big East Conference Championships this weekend in Piscataway, N.J., 29:46.08, collegiate-best.



PROVIDENCE

• Oliver Book (Cincinnati men’s track, Jr.) — notes: ninth in the 3,000 steeplechase at the Big East Conference Championships this weekend in Piscataway, N.J., 9:21.42.

• Devin Copple (Trine baseball, So.) — notes: 0-for-1 with one RBI and one stolen base in the Thunder’s 5-1 home loss to Adrian last Friday in the first game of a doubleheader; team records: 23-18 overall, 17-11 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

• Ryan Dixon (Bellarmine baseball, So.) — weekly stats: 0-0 record, 2 1/3 innings pitched, two runs allowed (one earned), three hits, one strikeout, no walks; notes: no-decision relief outing in the Knights’ 7-4 home loss against Butler last Tuesday, one inning pitched, no runs allowed, no hits, one strikeout, no walks; team records: 25-21 overall, 20-13 GLVC; Dixon’s record: 2-0.

• Katy Flanagan (Spalding softball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 4-for-8, one RBI; top performance: 2-for-2 in the Golden Eagles’ 11-0 loss in five innings to Fontbonne on Saturday in the semifinals of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Elsah, Ill.; notes: Flanagan has been selected to the All-SLIAC second team; season-ending stats: .331 batting average, four home runs, 20 RBIs, 27 runs scored, .508 slugging percentage; team records: 20-19 overall, 10-6 SLIAC.

• Patric Geary (Hanover men’s golf, So.) — notes: 22nd at the HCAC Championships April 27-28 and this weekend with a four-round 321, 33-over-par; 158 (14-over) in the final two rounds this weekend in Terre Haute (84 in the third, 74 in the final).

• Trey Pfund (Marian men’s golf, Sr.) — top performance: fifth in the Crossroads League Tournament April 29-30 in Fort Wayne with a three-round score of 223, 10-over-par (72 in the first round, 76 in the second, 75 in the final).; notes: Pfund made the All-Crossroads League team; the Knights won the conference championship for the 13th time, qualifying them for the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship May 14-17 in Salem, Ore.



SILVER CREEK

• Aaron Beck (Indianapolis men’s track, Jr.) — notes: 13th in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:19.75) and 19th in the javelin (37.84 meters) at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Romeoville, Ill.; the Greyhounds won the GLVC championships with 165 1-2 points.

• Kyle Briner (Lee baseball, So.) — top performance: winning pitcher in a relief role in the Flames’ 11-5 victory over William Carey last Friday in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals in Columbus, Ga., 1 1/3 innings pitched, no runs allowed, no hits, no strikeouts, no walks; notes: Due to the postponement of the SSAC championship game on Saturday, Lee shared the conference tournament title with Faulkner; as a result, the Flames earned an automatic berth in the NAIA Baseball National Championship tournament; team records: 46-10 overall, 23-5 SSAC; Briner’s record: 3-0.

• Rachel Clemons (Bellarmine women’s track, Fr.) — notes: 12th in the 10,000 at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Friday and Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., 39:42.82.



SOUTH CENTRAL
