COLLEGE BASKETBALL: IUS opens national tourney play tonight

No. 3 Grenadiers face Tabor College in first round

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — The IU Southeast men’s basketball team will face Tabor College (Kan.) tonight at 6:45 p.m. in the opening round of the NAIA Division II National Tournament.

The No. 3 Grenadiers (25-4) will be heavy favorites to move on against the unseeded, 20-12 Bluejays. With a win, IU Southeast would face No. 14 Saint Francis (Ind.) or unseeded Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday. The second-round contest is also a 6:45 p.m. scheduled tip time.

The tournament opened on Wednesday with No. 1 and defending champion Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) improving to 30-4 with a 74-53 victory over Northern New Mexico. Davenport (Mich.) also earned an easy win as the ninth-seeded Panthers whipped Ashford (Iowa) 63-46.

In the Grenadiers’ half of the bracket, No. 7 Saint Xavier (Ill.) and No. 10 Midland (Neb.) advanced. Bethel (Ind.) upset No. 15 Cal Maritime 85-75 and will face either No. 3 College of Idaho or host College of the Ozarks tonight at 8:30 p.m.
