Cheers
To the sale agreement on the shuttered Colgate-Palmolive Co. plant this week. With the proposed purchased, the unknown buyer will be getting a historic property in a prime location.
I’m siding with many town of Clarksville leaders in hoping for a mixed-used development full of residential options and retail and dining outposts. I also agree with Greg Sekula, director of the Southern Regional Office of the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, in urging the buyer to seek placement on the National Register of Historic Places. It will preserve the spirit of some of the structures on the
60-acre site and comes with a tax break for rehabbing those buildings.

To the workers at the BridgePointe Goodwill donation center in Clarksville who looked through boxes and boxes of donated items to find my daughter’s purse, which had gotten mixed in with the garage-sale leftovers. Whew! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

This cheer extends outside of Clark County, but our residents driving into downtown New Albany this weekend for Harvest Homecoming might notice it. Cheers for the long-overdue repair of the railroad crossing at 15th and Spring streets there. What once felt like driving over a mine field is now nice and smooth. Of course, there’s a side jeer for it taking years to get this accomplished.

I live in Jeffersonville. On Sunday, Sept. 14, I watched the wind blow my trees down in my front year. Part of the tree fell onto a utility line pushing it down. This interfered with the safety of the roadway.
I called the Jeffersonville Police Department. A nice neighbor man quickly came over cutting at the tree. Within an hour or so, Mayor Tom Galligan drove up. The mayor, the neighbor man and another fellow pushed the tree off the wire. I commend our friendly hands-on mayor, who got out and physically helped.
The Jeffersonville Street Department drove by several different days picking up branches and yard debris. Hats off to our hardworking city employees. They even worked on Sunday. And thanks to the neighbor man in helping, too. He even returned to cut some of the tree that had blocked our car in. A great appreciation to all during this stressful time.
