Health from the inside out

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — For the November issue we wanted to look at things that affect our health that we don't normally think about. We know we need to exercise, but all too often too much focus is put on that. Your health is so much more than how often you exercise.

You can exercise all you want, but if you're constantly stressed out, that's going to have a negative affect on your body. If you don't get a good night's rest you won't be at your best the next day. And of course if you're not eating foods with the right nutrients or too much of the wrong foods, that's not good either.

We tried to touch on every aspect of health covered in our mission statement in this issue, which brings me to an event going on this month.

Get Nothing and Love It

At 9 a.m. on Nov. 17 there will be a 5K run/walk at Charlestown State Park called Get Nothing and Love It. The cost is $10 or $10 worth of non-perishable goods. And what do you get in return? A warm heart.

There will be no medals for the top finishers. Everyone doesn't get a T-shirt. What you get is the knowledge that you helped a family in Clark or Floyd counties have a filling and nutritious Thanksgiving dinner.

Southern Indiana Fitness Source - along with Eastside Christian Church, Pacers and Racers, Louie 104.3, Indiana 9 and Charlestown State Park - is sponsoring this event because it exemplifies our mission statement. If you participate you'll get some exercise, help some people and feel good about what you did. Mind, body and spirit. It's all connected.
