VAN HOY: Some last minute election reminders

It’s nearly all over but the voting — all the campaigning, advertisements, preview articles and candidate signs stuck in the ground.

If you haven’t voted yet, you’re likely waiting until Tuesday, May 6, which is primary Election Day in Indiana. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As you can read on a page A1 story in today’s News and Tribune, Floyd County for the first time will be utilizing vote centers for people to cast votes. There will be 10 locations in the county, and any registered voter can vote at any location. You can find a list of locations along with the story on vote centers on the front page today.

Clark County voters will continue to vote at precincts. To find your polling location, visit indianavoters.in.gov or call the Clark County voter registration office at 812-285-6329.

SAMPLE BALLOTS

Some readers have asked why we have not published a sample ballot for prospective voters. The answer is simple — there are far too many variations to publish. In Floyd County, officials told us there are 17 different ballots, depending on where a person lives. In Clark County, there are about 60 versions, according to officials.

There are a couple of options, however, for people who want to know who they are voting for. We have published a candidate list on page online today. Not all of those candidates will appear on all ballots, but it’s a good starting point.

Registered voters can visit indianavoters.in.gov or visit their voter registration office to see a ballot. Locations can be found along with the page A1 vote centers story.
