VAN HOY: More fun for your buck

— You’ll notice a new section in today’s News and Tribune — one we hope will be part of your routine when you are looking for something to do in the coming week in the Southern Indiana area.

It’s all in the name — SoIn. We want to connect you with what’s going on in entertainment, food and music in and around our area of the state, and some special things in Louisville as well.

The tabloid-sized publication will appear every Thursday inside the News and Tribune, and copies will also be distributed at some area restaurants and hotels. Those copies of SoIn will be free.

It’s a move by the News and Tribune to try to attract and engage a younger readership, or readers of any age who like to spend their free time exploring the dining and entertainment options our area has to offer.

Along with that, you’ll notice a few other changes in the weekend paper. The Spectrum section will no longer be printed, although all the content readers are used to will be absorbed into the regular newspaper. That includes the religion and entertainment/TV listings pages, as well as milestones announcements.

Also, regular columns such as BBQ My Way, Making Cent$, Grape Sense, Youth Count, genealogy and ones from area extension services will still be published, mostly in the weekend edition.

We’re already having fun planning, executing and, now, delivering SoIn, and we hope you really like reading it. Pick up today’s edition inside the paper and search out something to do this weekend, even if it’s just eating at one of the restaurants where we asked about how architecture played into the theme of the eatery.

Inside SoIn you’ll find contact information for Jason Thomas, the section’s editor and an assistant editor of the News and Tribune. He’s handling submissions for SoIn and the publication was his brainchild.

Please drop Jason a note to let us know if you like SoIn and how we can make it better.

As always, thanks for reading the News and Tribune, and now SoIn.
