— “At 85, there are two things that you do well — cry and pee. I do a lot of both” — Teddy Throckmorton
Yes, this is the quote Teddy told me and again uttered at the Elks Club last Saturday during one of the special social events I have attended in some time — his 85th birthday party. There was a virtual Who’s-Who from Jeffersonville, and more than a few JHS Hall-of-Fame athletes.
A very special and emotional exchange took place when recently retired legendary broadcaster Charlie Jenkins awarded Ted with a plaque that exclaimed he was, “The Last Mic Standing.”
Rumor has it that Ted has again shot his age on the golf course, but Bobby Potter told me in the past that Teddy’s favorite club is the foot wedge. If you can get the truth out of Potter about Ted, then you need to volunteer in the Jeffersonville Police Department’s detective’s interrogation room.
And by the way, we are sure Ted is 85, because Gene Coomer has been keeping track of the years. Ted’s still a pretty good looking 85-year old man, but when 101-year-old Jeff fan Tom Horn walked into the room he could have passed for Ted’s brother, um, er, little brother!
