Camm trial begins in Warrick County

Jurors hear part of 911 call made by David Camm

Opening statements and the tape of a 911 call made by accused murder dominated day one of the trial of David Camm in Warrick County.

Floyd County Prosecutor David Henderson spent his opening remarks telling the jury Camm committed the crimes and also said evidence links Camm to Charles Boney at the crime scene.

Camm and Boney are separately charged with the 2000 murders of Camm’s wife, Kimberly, and the couple’s two children, Brad and Jill. Camm is a former Indiana State Police trooper who, in 2002, was convicted in Floyd County of triple murder.

That conviction was overturned in 2004 by an appeals court. The retrial was moved to Boonville in Warrick County because of the media coverage the first trial garnered. Boney’s trial continues today in Floyd Circuit Court.

Camm cried when Henderson played a portion of the call he made to police the night of the shootings, WLKY-TV reported.

Boney defense attorney Katharine Liell took about twice as long to complete her opening statements to the court, WLKY reported. Her team said police work in the case was careless and that Camm has 11 alibis, according to WLKY.

The prosecution intends to lean on DNA, blood spatter and gunshot residue evidence to prove Boney is guilty of the three murders.

Camm family murder trials

• Testimony continues today in the triple-murder trials of David Camm in Warrick County and Charles Boney in Floyd County. Each are charged with killing Camm’s wife, Kimberly Camm, and the couple’s two children, Brad and Jill. Read about Tuesday’s proceedings in the Wednesday Evening News/Tribune.

Charles Boney trial

• After spending most of last week tying together what it says is a string of lies told by murder defendant Charles Boney, prosecutors today are expected to unveil what they say is Boney’s fourth version of his relationship with Camm and what happened at the scene of the murders. The prosecution’s case will continue through most of the week before the defense gets its turn.
