A caucus will be held Aug. 5 to select a new chairman for the Floyd County Democratic Party, as well as to fill the vacated Floyd County Council at-large seat.
This week’s resignation by Randy Stumler left the positions open, as the former chairman and councilman will be leaving Floyd County for a teaching position with the U.S. Department of Defense, in the Azores Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
The caucus will be held at 7 p.m. in the Circuit Court Room, located on the fourth floor of the City/County Building.
Any person interested in becoming chairman must file a letter of intent with party Secretary Tony Toran before July 26. All precinct committeemen and vice-committeemen will be eligible to vote.
Anyone who wants to serve on the council will need to file a Declaration of Candidacy with acting county Chairwoman Marcey Wisman on or before Aug. 3.
All precinct committeemen that were elected or appointed on or before June 14 will be eligible to vote for the council seat.
The person chosen to fill Stumler’s council seat will serve until voters chose a permanent replacement in November. The party chair can pick the replacement for Stumler to run in the general election.
Three democrats and three republicans are schedule to run for three at-large council seats.
Wisman can be reached by phone at 812-207-3824 with questions.
