Cancer Society to 'paint Jeffersonville purple'

Relay For Life event taking place Saturday along Spring Street

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville will become a sea of purple Saturday, April 13, as businesses along Spring Street in downtown will team up to help raise awareness for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Clark County.

The Paint Our Town Purple event enlists help from local businesses and community members to fill the day with purple, starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and proclamation by Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore at 10:30 a.m. in Warder Park, along Court Avenue.

From there, the purple festivities will continue until 3 p.m. with entertainment, music and opportunities for community members to shop and visit vendors along Spring Street who are holding fundraisers and decking their businesses out in head to toe shades of plums, violets and even eggplant.

At noon, there will be a demonstration by the Southern Indiana Shufflers Line Dancers and music by Big Phatty Band at Warder Park. T-shirts will be available for $10, which goes to the cancer society; Luminaria bags will be available for a $5 donation and will be lit at the Clark County Relay event; and several Relay teams will be holding fundraisers at Warder Park.

The following businesses are participating in Paint Our Town Purple through awareness efforts and discounts: 300 Spring, Choices, Corner Consignment, Gold’s Jewelers, Grinny Possum Fiber Arts, Lavender Hill, Leslie Lewis & Associates Interior Design, MultiMediaMix, Perkfection Café, Purple Pig, Salon 253, Schimpff’s Confectionery, Spirited 143 Boutique, Sugar Maples, The Barber Academy, The Clipper Shop Barber & Styling Shop, The News and Tribune, and The Springs Salon & Spa.

Community members are invited to join in the fun, purple-filled day and help support the Relay For Life of Clark County, which will be held May 17 at Charlestown High School. All proceeds raised during Paint Our Town Purple and Relay for Life will benefit the American Cancer Society.
