American Legion Auxiliary dessert coming this weekend

FLOYDS KNOBS — If you ask Sally Knickerbocker, chair of Saturday’s Sweetheart Dessert Auction, how plans are progressing, be prepared to listen for a few minutes while she lists all the merchants she has talked to and the individuals who are planning to bring desserts.

“Our sponsors are great,” she said.

Sponsors include First Savings Bank — Floyds Knobs and New Albany; Callistus Smith Agency Inc.; R. C. Laser Inc., and Barr Transmissions.

She is also expecting 30 desserts for the event. Autumn Woods Health Campus, a previous cash prize winner, is planning another spectacular entry according to a press release from Knickerbocker.

“I hope other organizations and merchants get involved. We want competition,” she said.

Caroline French, Unit 42 Auxiliary president, said last year there were 60 entries.

“We hope to have a similar response this year; many of these will be family recipes that you won’t find anywhere else,” she said. “Some of the best cooks in the country are right here in our backyard.”

Merchants or individuals who want to support this event but prefer to give a cash donation may do so. Checks should be made payable to American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 42 and sent to Ann Carr, Unit Treasurer, 4530 Paoli Pike, Floyds Knobs, IN, 47119. Check-in for baked entries begins at noon Saturday, Feb. 8. The auction will begin at 2 p.m. and cash prizes will be offered for the most creative entry and the one bringing the highest bid.

The Auxiliary will also host a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the post.

The American Legion Auxiliary is a not-for-profit organization that has as its primary mission support of our military and our veterans; children and youth; and our community.
