Belly Dance program to benefit holiday toy drive

NEW ALBANY — The fourth-annual Raq’n Around the Christmas Tree Holiday Toy Drive will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in New Albany.

The event — which is hosted by New Albany Raqia Belly Dance/The Studio — will be held at the Holiday Inn, located at 411 W. Spring St.

A taste of local Southern Indiana food and spirits will be featured during the event, with area establishments including Habana Blues, the River City Winery and Keg Liquors slated to attend.

Entertainment will include a belly dancing show by Al Hamsa, Gypsies of the Nile and Raqia’s Stars. The cost to attend is $10 or one new toy per person.

The toy drive this year will benefit the AIDS Interfaith Ministries of Kentuckiana, whose holiday assistance program helps about 300 children and families in the area.
