Movie preview: “Saving Mr. Banks”

Rated: PG-13 for thematic elements including some unsettling images

Cast: Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell, Bradley Whitford, Paul Giamatti

Plot: A doting father, Walt Disney promises his adoring daughters that he will bring their favorite fictional nanny, Mary Poppins, to the big screen. Little does Walt realize that surly author P.L. Travers has no intention of seeing her most famous creation bastardized for moviegoers. Years later, however, when Travers’ book sales begin to slow, dwindling finances drive her to meet with Disney to discuss the film rights to the beloved story. A determined Disney does his absolute best to convince Travers that the adaption will be wondrous and respectful, but the author continues to grow increasingly hesitant on sharing her character.
