Program to focus on historic New Albany homes

Trio to lead March 23 presentation at Culbertson Mansion

NEW ALBANY — More than 200 years old, New Albany is steeped in history, and the city’s housing stock is just one example of its legacy.

A free presentation March 23 inside one of the most historic venues in the city — the Culbertson Mansion — will focus on historic New Albany homes. Organizers of the event said the problem wasn’t finding houses to feature during the talk, as New Albany has a plethora of historic and older homes.

“It was kind of hard to even narrow it down to be able to put something together for an hour presentation,” said Greg Sekula, southern regional director of Indiana Landmarks.

He will lead the program along with commentary from Floyd County Historian David Barksdale, and area author and historian Steve Wiser.

The trio will share their research on historic properties in New Albany during the event, which will begin at 2 p.m.

“We’re going to be talking about the different architectural forms, and how they progressed over time in New Albany,” Sekula said.

Following the presentation, people can tour the Culbertson Mansion at a cost of $5 per adult, and $4 for seniors.
