Movie preview: “Captain Phillips”

Rated: PG-13 for sustained intense sequences of menace, some violence with bloody images, and for substance use.

Running time: 2 hr 14 min

Cast: Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, Michael Chernus

Plot: Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks teams with Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass to tell the true story of Richard Phillips, a U.S. cargo-ship captain of the MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. With his crew fortified in a “secure room” created for just such an incident, Captain Phillips and the pirate leader find themselves in a tense standoff that threatened to erupt into violence at any moment.
